Yogyakarta – Central Java Community Assistance Program Print

The Yogyakarta – Central Java Community Assistance Program (YCAP) is an Australian Government response to the earthquake of May 2006 that struck Central Indonesia. This disaster created major devastation particularly in the districts of Bantul in Yogyakarta Province and Klaten in Central Java Province. The overall death toll was 5,743 people, with an estimated 38,511 injured. Estimates of the number of homeless varied from 200,000 to 650,000.

RHK (joint venture between Reeves and HKL) are working with local government, communities and NGOs as the Community Based Assistance Provider (CBAP) to manage small scale community based rehabilitation works that will assist those affected to return as quickly as possible to normality in the three areas of life most severely affected by the earthquake:

  • household life;
  • income producing activities; and
  • schooling.

This Program has a large emphasis on community engagement and ensuring that both women and disadvantaged groups are involved in determining their future.
